Ryan and Gina's Wedding- The Inn at St. Johns- Plymouth, MI

When your venue is almost as stunning as the people your photographing! This couple and everyone involved in the day could not have been much more fun, and awesome. The Inn at Saint Johns is a very beautiful venue and the soft coloring of the bridemaids dresses with romantic pops of color in the floral fit perfectly! After the ceremony, we whisked the bridal party away to do all photographs. The lighting and building detail had Gina and Ryan looking like couture models! The reception was so stunningly lit with candle light and sting lights, but nothing quite topped the dancing and party that took place! Beyond the details and stunning couple, this day was full of joy amongst everyone! Thank you for allowing me in on your big day!

Tonya and Timmy's Detroit Masonic Temple Wedding-Detroit, MI

Where to even begin... Tonya is one of the sweetest brides! Knowing they wanted to do a first look was exciting and the most perfect blooms were right outside the MGM! Between how stunning Tonya looked and how handsome Tim was in his uniform my heart was jumping for joy! The two couldn't be more in love and it sure radiated through them all day. From the moment I did this couples engagement session I was looking forward to their wedding, Still can not believe its come and gone! I had never been to their venue for a wedding or photographed a wedding there so that was so awesome and exciting, love new venues!! The Detroit Masonic Temple is something I couldn't have even imagined, I love history and all things pretty, this was all that and more! From some of the oldest elevators in Michigan to a real theater and telephone booths... this place is cool! Both the ceremony and reception was held at the Temple and all laid out perfectly. The ceremony was ordained by the brides brother and at times had the entire place cracking up including the bride and groom! The decor was done by Tonya herself and she chose to have cherry cheese cake instead of cake... never tried a piece come to think of it... bet it was yummy! Speeches from their best friends and even Tonya's grandmother had you seeing just how amazing this couple was and how loved. Thank you so much for letting me in on your wonderful day. May you have many years of happiness!

Why Film?

Why Film?

I often get asked, why do you shoot film? Well because its amazing and the best, hahaha! No really it is. I started over a year ago trying to see if I could wrap my head around film, yes, "old school film". It did not take long for me to fall in love with film and all of its beauty. The tones film provide can not be beat, the skin is creamy and the greens are minty. Soft and romantic with that magical pop of contrast. Digital images can be matched to appear similar to film and as a hybrid shooter I  have found their is a reason for both in my bag. Film handles highlights and bright lighting so much better than digital, however digital is better in low light. Above all things Film has made me be a better photographer as a whole, made me slow down, read light better, and made me see things in a whole new way. Film being perfectly imperfect is unlike digital in the fact that you can not just "fix it in photoshop". Film makes you know your skill at a higher level and it challenges you as an artist. The Images below show both film on top SOOC Fuji 400 pushed and the lower digital SOOC! For my clients you will know your getting the best of both worlds and a better photographer because of film. Photographers, if you do not shoot film, I encourage you to try it!

Coach Insignia Winter Wonderland Wedding - Detroit, MI

Rachel and Malcolm's big day started out with a very snowy drive to the Renaissance Center in Downtown Detroit, right on the Detroit River and overlooking Windsor, Canada. Both the bride and groom spent the morning relaxing with their friends and family in their respective suites. After hair and makeup, the girls headed over to the Fort Street Presbyterian Church, constructed in 1855! It was snowing so hard that the church had to sweep the stairs every 30 minutes. The ceremony was full of personal touches including vows by both Rachel and Malcolm that had everyone laughing and then crying.  After the cermony  we stopped over at Hart Plaza for the FASTEST bridal party and just married photos ever! The wind was fierce and cold, and the snow was not letting up, but the bridal party braved it all for some amazing photos. The reception was held at the Coach Insignia - a restaurant on the 72nd floor of the Renaissance Building with a 360 degree view of the city. The details at the reception added the perfect personal touch to end the evening - tiny champagne bottles for everyone to take home! Thank you, Rachel and Malcolm, for letting me capture your snow-filled, gorgeous winter wonderland wedding day!!

Reflecting on 2016

Reflecting on 2016

Oh my, what a year! Looking back on 2016 brings so many wonderful memories to my mind. From the baby bumps to the wedding parties we sure had a lot to love. I tried picking my favorites but quickly realized I didn't have enough room! 2016 will always be special for me as it was my first complete year as a full time Photographer. While it has always been a passion of mine, it wasn't my only job.

This journey started almost 6 years ago and I never thought photography would pick me the way that it has! It's a blessing for me to be able to follow my passions and run my own business. That being said, I realized it was a big step, and I really didn't know how awesome the year would turn out.

Being that photography was now my full time career, I decided to pick up a film camera. Knowing that I'd need to gain some knowledge quickly, I traveled to both Kentucky and Tennessee to attend two workshops. Film, wow! I can say that film is hard, but beautiful. There have been some amazing scans and some, well, not so great! Learning film has been a very exciting but humbling experience that has forever changed me as an artist. Authentic and romantic, nothing is quite like film.

Looking back through this year's photos it makes my heart so happy to know that I've been able to capture moments that will be forever cherished by my clients. A new family's first picture, seeing a father's emotion as he walks his daughter down the aisle or that special dance with Grandma, all memories that I was able to capture for those involved forever.

2016 saw me attend 2 film workshops, photograph 20 weddings, 3 editorial styled shoots, and almost 100 sessions. Going full time I knew I'd have to work really hard, but hard work pays off! This work led to my year highlight - I got published! Not once, but 8 times!

What a great year. Thank you so much to all of you for letting me share your special moments this year. To Amanda, thanks for your support and being by my side through this successful year! I can't wait to see what 2017 brings us!

Port Huron, Mi - Black River Country Club Wedding

When it rains on your wedding day...and it turns out awesome! This couple didn't care if it was raining - they wanted an outdoor wedding. What started as a tiny drizzle early in the day steadily increased to the point of a slight downpour, but Briana and Craig didn't let it get them down, and their family and friends were such troopers! After the ceremony, we whisked the bridal party away to The Exquisite Corpse Coffee House. The lighting and decor had Craig and Briana looking like couture models! Back at the country club during the reception, the parents' speeches had everyone (including me!) cracking up with their stories about Craig and Briana and their dating years. At one point, every male guest in the room was putting oven mitts in front of Briana...something about a Halloween costume gone wrong? The night ended with some enthusiastic dancing by Craig's old baseball buddies while the DJ was playing some old school classics like Backstreet Boys! All in all, I was so excited that this couple turned lemons into lemonade and had such a blast on their big day!

Winter Engagement Session-Downtown Detroit, Mi

Wow, I loved this session!! The snow and christmas lights made for some extra magical details, don't  you think!? This couple was fun, cute and so sweet! With it being the day before the first big snow storm the temps were pretty chilly and the winds were coming in pretty quickly, but they hung in there! Heart Plaza in downtown Detroit was a perfect place to start our session, as we got a colder we moved towards the library. Taking a break from the cold we were able to get some different shots inside and then back out to the DIA, which is one of my favorite places!! The white marble of the DIA building is almost as magical as the snowy grounds! This ranks up there with my fav's!! I can not wait to photograph their beautiful big day this next season!!

Ann Arbor, Mi- Engagement Session

This location and couple could not have been any better! I had a blast with these two, and even though it was so freezing cold that I literally wore snow gear, it's a favorite to date! The couple were such troopers! Gina was a bridesmaid in another wedding I did few years ago, so when she called to book me I was already excited. Now after their session, I am even more so! Thank you guys for a great time - you rocked! I can not wait to photograph your big day next year!!

Megan and Kyle's Beautiful Detroit, Mi Wedding - Royal Park Hotel

Hard to believe that these two lovebirds went to school together from 1st to 12th grade, but even in such a small town, they didn't start speaking until Megan was off in college in Colorado! A spur of the moment message on Facebook to wish Kyle a happy birthday turned into a long-distance relationship that broke all the stereotypes. Six years later, on a romantic fall ice cream date with their fur-babies, Megan turned around to find Kyle down on one knee, asking her to spend the rest of her life with him!

Fast forward to their wedding day: we met Megan and her bridesmaids getting ready at the glamorous Royal Park Hotel in Rochester, Michigan. I'll never forget seeing Megan's little sister tear up at the sight of her big sister in her wedding dress! Next we headed out to Marine City for the reception at Megan's father's house. What a beautiful location, and right next to Megan's family's horse farm. It was only fitting that she rode into the ceremony with her dad on a horse and carriage, just like a fairy-tale! The reception was held afterwards back at the Royal Park Hotel. The banquet room was hardly recognizable with nearly every inch decorated to the nines with diamonds, flowers, and candles! One of my favorite touches was the live painter from Captured by Canvas who was painting the room as the reception was going on, what a unique idea! Every minute of Kyle and Megan's wedding reflected their beautiful, strong love for each other and we wish them a lifetime of happiness!
